Recommended Prayers and Practices

For Rinpoche's good health & long life

Activities planned and how you can participate

During his recent visit to Marpa House, we sought Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche’s advice on how we can support our precious teacher, Kyabje Chime Rinpoche, in maintaining good health and long life.

Rabjam Rinpoche very helpfully asked that H.H. Sakya Trizin perform a Mo divination, and so we’re pleased to share with you the recommended practices and prayers given in the divination.

They are:

  • Reversal of Negativities through the repetition of the Heart Sutra
  • Recite the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra in 100,000 verses
  • Longevity ritual (Tse-chok) x 100
  • The four 4 Mandala offering Ritual to Tara x 100
  • Recite the Sutra: Zung Du
  • Make extensive offerings and petition the Dharmaphalas

We have included details below on how you can sponsor prayers, practice at home, join via Zoom, or attend a practice session at Marpa House.

How you can participate

If you’re already familiar with these practices, please consider accumulating them. This is a lovely way for us all to take part for Rinpoche’s health and long life.

We would love for you to send us any accumulations you’ve done at home so we can keep count and feel united as a Sangha. Please send your numbers to trustees@marpahouse.org.uk

The more we can do at home or together, the more beneficial it will be.

Additional Practices from Home

There are other ways in which we can all support Rinpoche:

Reciting Rinpoche’s long-life prayer
Reciting the Heart Sutra
Green or White Tara Practice
Amitayus Practice

RINPOCHE’S LONG LIFE PRAYER

For the Long Life of Kyabje Chime Rinpoche by Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche.

This Long Life prayer for Kyabje Chime Rinpoche was written on the 20th day of the eighth Tibetan month (4 October 2023) by Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche upon request of Karma Wangdu from Bhutan.

It was translated by Venerable Sean Price.

This is being recited with both the morning and evening pujas at Marpa House, and we know many of you will also be reciting this prayer at home as part of your own practice.

THE HEART SUTRA

In Sanskrit, the title Prajñāpāramitāhṛdaya translates as “The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom”.

The Heart Sutra is a Buddhist scripture that distils the wisdom of “emptiness” (shunyata) and “perfection of wisdom” (prajnaparamita).

It teaches that all phenomena, including objects, people, and thoughts, are “empty” of an independent, fixed self-nature because they are all dependently arisen and subject to change. This understanding is meant to lead to a release from suffering and a life of greater compassion and harmony.

TARA PRACTICE

Green Tara

Green Tara is about overcoming hindrances and fears through practising wisdom and compassion for all beings.

White Tara

White Tara is about healing and purification through practising wisdom and compassion for all beings.

AMITAYUS PRACTICE

Amitayus is about restoring vitality and increasing life through practising wisdom and compassion for all beings.

Amitayus is the Buddha of Boundless Life.
