You are warmly invited to join us, online via Zoom or in person, to recite Calling the Lama from Afar for our precious guru, Kyabje Chime Rinpoche, at Marpa House on Friday, 17th April at 7 pm (BST).
Calling the Lama from Afar is a Kagyu-lineage Vajrayana prayer and meditation by Jamgon Kongtrul the Great, serving as a guru yoga so we can connect with our root teacher.
It is a request for blessings and guidance, expressing unwavering devotion and trust in our lama as a mirror of our own mind. The prayer acknowledges our suffering, and it relies on our pure devotion to “call” the lama.
It is particularly powerful when an enlightened being has passed into Parinirvana. In Tibetan Buddhism, the lama is seen as one with the Buddha, a living embodiment of awakened wisdom. Through this practice, we nurture devotion, open to blessings, and attune to our teacher’s luminous mind—an awareness that flows beyond the boundaries of physical life.
Join us as we reinforce our devotion and connection to Kyabje Chime Rinpoche.
We will be livestreaming at 7:00 pm BST. For those who regularly join our online sessions, this is one hour earlier than usual for ‘Calling the Lama from Afar’.
