Lunch is available at an extra cost and must be booked in advance with the secretary (£7). Saga Dawa Düchen falls on Sunday 31st May this year. It is one of the most sacred days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, marking the full moon (the 15th day) of the fourth Tibetan lunar month, celebrating the Buddha’s enlightenment at the age of 35 in Bodhgaya, and the anniversary of his parinirvana at Kushinagara. It is said that the karmic results of our actions on this day are multiplied many millions of times, offering the opportunity to develop tremendous merit and benefit countless beings. We will be marking the day here by having a Sang offering, raising a new banner for our prayer flags, and practicing ‘Calling the Lama from Afar’. Meditation Sunday – These sessions are suitable for meditators of all levels, with guided meditation from experienced sangha members, and are offered free of charge. We hope you can join us. This month’s session is led by Lama Alasdair. Lama Alasdair has been a student of Kyabje Chime Rinpoche for over fifty years and has completed the traditional three-year retreat practices at Naro Ling men’s retreat centre, Chateau de Plaige. He was Rinpoche’s resident Lama at Kagyu Cho Khor Ling in the Black Forest. Shamatha (or ‘Shi-ne’) is the foundation for all further meditation practice. It is designed to create the calm, stable, supple mind necessary to work with other meditation techniques, as well as being a practice in its own right.
