Marpa House and The Dharma Trust
Marpa House is a Buddhist retreat and meditation centre in Ashdon, Essex, dedicated to the advancement of Tibetan Buddhism.
It was established in 1973 by Kyabje Chime Rinpoche. The centre is now run by the Dharma Trust, a company limited by guarantee (no. 04332473) and registered with the Charity Commission (no. 1090628).
How Marpa House is run
A board of trustees is responsible for the governance and long-term sustainability, spiritual direction, and financial security of the House.
The centre is staffed by resident volunteers (a secretary, a cook, a housekeeper and a gardener) who receive an honorarium intended to reimburse personal expenses, and are aided by a paid non-resident House Administrator.
Life at Marpa House
We are open daily. Overnight stays are set at the lowest possible economic level. Course fees are kept as low as possible; student-led courses are donation-based or low-cost, and student-led meditation days are free.
Daily meditation sessions and morning and evening pujas are free. Young Sangha and Family weekends are subsidised, and Volunteer Weekends include free board and full participation.
Those wishing to deepen their practice may join the community as staff, receiving full board, free access to all courses, and a small honorarium.
We want to express our deep and heartfelt gratitude to our precious teacher, Kyabje Chime Rinpoche, for his unceasing loving kindness, wisdom and guidance.
Thank you, Rinpoche, for creating this jewel of a centre for the study and practice of authentic Dharma. And thank you to all those who have supported, worked, volunteered, visited, helped, or been involved with Marpa House. May the authentic teachings of the Buddha always flourish here, and may peace and happiness prevail in every realm of existence.
