Welcome to the July 2013 Marpa Monthly Update, letting you know about events, volunteering opportunities and more at Marpa House.

EVENTS – JULY 2013

Sponsored Walk Sunday 6 July

To celebrate and support Marpa House, Ben Henriques (a Marpa House Committee member) has organised a sponsored walk in the beautiful local countryside. We will walk from Newport Station to Marpa House, a fairly easy route of about 10 miles. We can stop for lunch at a nice pub if people would like to do that. If you want to sign up for the walk, or would like to sponsor somebody to walk, please contact the Marpa House Secretary, or donate directly via this PayPal link.

The House will be closed to other visitors during this weekend and there is a special lower rate of just £10 per night, which includes accommodation, meals and everything else. Day visitors are also very welcome.

STAFFING OPPORTUNITIES

Marpa House is currently looking for two more semi-permanent staff members, a cleaner and a gardener, who can help keep the House open to visitors, retreatants and those attending the various large and small courses that take place during the year. We are always looking for people to come onto staff, so if you can’t make the time now but you are interested in cooking, cleaning, or gardening in the future, we would also very much like to hear from you. As a volunteer you would live at the house and receive a small honorarium to cover basic costs of living. All meals and accommodation are provided free of charge and you can participate free of charge in all Marpa House events while you are here. To find out more please contact the Marpa House Administrator or speak to a member of the Committee.

GET INVOLVED

You may feel that you want to get involved in Marpa House but can’t commit to being on staff or on Committee. We are always looking for willing volunteers to help out at events, and for people who have skills to bring to the maintenance and upkeep of Marpa House and gardens. If you want to volunteer for ad hoc jobs, you can enter your contact details on a list of volunteers who we can call upon when needed. It’s an extremely useful way to get involved. Just contact the Marpa House Administrator to add your name to the list.

GARDEN ANGELS

A big thank you to the garden angels who came to help during the Volunteers Gardening Weekend. The sun shone, the garden was lovingly tended, and the desserts were delicious! We tidied the hedge and roadside verge, tamed the weeds in the veggie garden and raspberry beds, and did lots more. Thank you angels for being so enthusiastic and for helping us to keep the house working well!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST – PLEASE DONATE

It is easy to donate to Marpa House and to help ensure that Marpa House is here for at least another 40 years. All you have to do is click this button:
